DP Energy gets new wind farm neighbours in Euston, NSW

Squadron
Energy is not mucking around with its renewable energy ambitions, with planning
underway for a massive, up to 2 GW project near Euston in NSW’s Riverina
region.
The NSW
planning authority is assessing a proposal for Squadron’s Koorakee Energy Park,
to be located approximately 12km north of Euston in the Balranald Shire Council
Local Government Area.
The project
will have an installed capacity of up to 2 GW, comprising up to 1 GW of wind
generation from approximately 167 wind turbine generators and up to 1 GW of
solar generation capacity from approximately 3100ha of solar panels.
An attached
battery energy storage system will have a capacity of up to 1 GW and provision
for up to 12 hours of storage (12 GWh).
Located
within the South West Renewable Energy Zone, the energy park will connect to
the existing 220kVBuronga/Balranald Transgrid transmission line crossing the
southern section of the project.
The project
investigation area is approximately 58,000 hectares, with a proposed
development corridor of approximately 13,700ha.
It is
located in close proximity to DP Energy’s Euston Wind Farm Project, for which
an EIS is being prepared. The 700 MW project, located 8km north of Euston,
entered the state planning approvals process around eight months ago.
DP Energy
announced its Euston Wind Farm project in November last year, saying the
project was “expected to generate enough electricity to power up to 324,903 New
South Wales homes, incorporating approximately 100 wind turbines and a Battery
Energy Storage System (BESS)”.
Ireland-headquartered
DP Energy has successfully lead Australian developments, including the 320 MW
Port Augusta Renewable Energy Park in South Australia and the 430 MW Callide
Wind Farm in Queensland.
