Description:

Snowy 2.0 would establish a new underground power station that will increase the generation capacity of the Snowy Scheme by almost 50%, providing an additional 2,000 megawatts (MW) generating capacity, and providing approximately 350 gigawatt hours (GWh) of storage. Snowy 2.0 would link the existing Tantangara and Talbingo reservoirs within the Snowy Scheme through a series of underground tunnels and hydro‚Äźelectric power station.

  • 2018, May : Approvals sought to start exploratory works
  • 2018, Mar : Federal Government agreed to acquire NSW & Victorian state government's shares in Snowy Hydro
  • 2017, Aug : Agreement reached for federal government to contribute $8mil funding via ARENA
  • 2017, Mar : Feasibility study announced into several sites across the Scheme which could support new large-scale, pumped hydro-electric energy storage
