A second Atmos Renewables and Nomad Energy project in the WA
Wheatbelt town of Merredin, called the Ngaangk Boodja Battery & Solar Farm
(NBBSF), has been recommended for approval by a state planning panel.
The $335mil project includes a 100 MW AC / 158 MW DC solar farm combined with a DC-coupled, approximately 642 MWh BESS.
Key components include between 240,000 to 260,000 solar panels, 120 - 130 battery modules located throughout the solar array, and 30-35 power conversion stations.
The NBBSF site comprises two lots with a combined area of 230 hectares located approximately 7.5km south-west of Merredin, adjacent to the existing Merredin Terminal Sub-station which will connect the project to the South West Interconnected System (SWIS).
Western Power’s 132kV and 220kV Merredin Terminal Sub-station connects to the 220kV transmission line that feeds the Goldfields to the east and Muja in the west, with the 132kV network servicing Merredin town to the north and west to Northam.
The project will take approximately 18 – 24 months to construct, employing a peak construction workforce of approximately 200 people.
The project name Ngaangk Boodja, which translates to ‘Sun Country’, was selected in consultation with Traditional Owner representatives from the Ballardong Aboriginal Corporation, holders of the Indigenous Land Use Agreement which covers project site and the local Njaki Njaki group of Merredin.
The Atmos Renewables and Nomad Energy JV is also constructing the 100 MW / 400 MWh Merredin BESS close to the Merredin Terminal Sub-station.
