Published Date : 2026-June-4, Thursday
Perth-based business Glasterra has taken over development of
the Kemerton BESS project in south-west WA from original developer Trina Solar.
After completing acquisition in March, Glasterra has reconfigured the project to be a 330 MW standalone BESS with duration of either 7.5 hours or 8 hours (2.5 GWh or 2.7 GWh) to be built in a single stage. Glasterra is in the final stages of the technology selection to settle the battery size.
The project site is located on an already cleared 18.75ha parcel of land in Wellesley, within the state-government supported Kemerton Strategic Industrial Area.
Kemerton BESS is considered ready-to-build status having secured land access, environmental clearances, development approval and a Western Power Access Agreement.
The BESS will connect to the Kemerton Terminal Station, which in turn connects to the South West Interconnected System and is the closest 330/132 kV injection point into the Bunbury load area.
Trina Solar gained approvals for a 660 MW / 2640 MWh project, with construction to include up to 800 battery energy storage system containers, 200 inverters with MV transformers, four high voltage substations, two operations & maintenance buildings and two storage facilities.
Construction was expected to take 24 months and employ up to 150 people.
Glasterra describes itself as “an energy infrastructure development business focused on delivering practical, large-scale projects that support the transition of Western Australia’s energy system”.
