Mumblin Wind Farm gets state development approval
Published Date : 2026-July-1, Wednesday
RE Future’s proposed 54 MW Mumblin Wind Farm, to be located
8km south-west of Cobden and 200km south-west of Melbourne in Victoria, has
been given the go-ahead by the state planning authority.
The project will consist of up to eight wind turbine generators constructed within a project development footprint of approximately 18.1 hectares and connected to the grid via the Cobden Zone Substation.
The total wind farm project area covers 27 privately owned land parcels and 10 adjoining road reserves.
The existing land is primarily used for agricultural purposes, predominantly grazing and dairy farming, which is proposed continue alongside the operation of the wind energy facility.
The number of planned wind turbines was reduced from 15 to 9 in a DA revision, then reduced again to 8 in the EPBC Act referral submitted to the federal environmental regulator in early 2025.
RE Future is considering a range of turbine models - Vestas V162 HH150, Vestas V162 HH166, Vestas V172 HH150 and Vestas 172 HH166 - to provide for a degree of flexibility in the contracting phase of the wind farm development process.
Federal EPBC Act approval should be a formality now as the wind farm was assessed under a Bilateral Agreement with the state government.
