A state planning panel has recommended approval for PGS Energy’s Three Springs Solar Farm & BESS Project to be located approximately 3.2km north-east of the Three Springs townsite and approximately 300km north of the Perth Metropolitan Area.
The project consists of a 153 MW AC / 191.19 MW DC PV solar array and a 250 MW / 2000 MWh storage capacity BESS comprised of 350 battery containers.
It will connect to the 330kV Western Power sub-station/ terminal directly adjoining the western side of the development area.
The 5712-hectare project area site contains a development footprint area of approximately 300 hectares.
Construction of the solar farm is anticipated to run for about 12 to 14 months, with construction of the BESS and point of connection anticipated to take 14 months.
A peak construction workforce of up to 180 workers will be required for the solar farm, with five ongoing maintenance roles.
The BESS and Point of Connection construction workforce will range from 120 to 150 workers.
Further south, a different panel has recommended approval of RE Development’s Hopeland BESS to be located 44km south of Perth CBD in the Shire of Serpentine-Jarrahdale LGA.
The proposed development includes a 125 MW / 500 MWh BESS facility and supporting infrastructure.
The overall project area is approximately 67.28ha in size and has two overhead 330kV transmission lines crossing north-south through the centre of the site, to which the BESS will connect.
The construction phase is expected to take approximately 12 months.
