Another Collie battery gets a boost with land deal

ZEN Energy’s long-held plans for a big
battery in Collie, south-west WA, have been given a boost courtesy of a land deal
by a partner. International Graphite (ASX: IG6) has selected a site around 5km
north-east of the Collie town centre for a future battery anode material (BAM)
plant.
IG6 intends to negotiate for a lease over
approximately 20 hectares of privately owned land in the Coolangatta industrial
precinct. The lease period would be 20 years with a further 20-year extension
available.
IG6 managing director and CEO Andrew
Worland said the site was “only metres from the existing power network”, with
enough area to consider installation of a solar facility.
IG6 has a non-binding Memorandum of
Understanding with Zen Energy which is assessing the feasibility of building a
200 MW / 600 - 800 MWh battery at Collie.
ZEN is in the Collie big battery queue
along with Neoen, which has approvals for a 1000 MW/4000 MWh battery facility,
and the WA Government which last week announced development of a 500 MW / 2000
MWh project to be operational before the end of 2025.
