Banpu Energy Australia adds a new battery project to its portfolio, acquiring the shovel-ready 103 MW / 206 MWh grid-forming Kerang BESS in Victoria from ACE Power.
The project site is located in the Loddon Valley region of Victoria, approximately 5km south of Kerang, on private land off Loddon Valley Highway adjacent to the Kerang Terminal Station.
Development Approval was granted by Gannawarra Shire Council to ACE Power in 2012, and grid connection approval (5.3.4A&B) received from AEMO in late 2023.
ACE Power said it “will continue to support Banpu with achieving financial close which is scheduled to occur later this year”.
Banpu is also developing the 500 MW / 1000 MWh Pinecrest BESS near Lidsdale, approximately 12km north-west of Lithgow in NSW, after plans for a co-located 100 MW AC / 130 MW DC solar farm were withdrawn prior to SEARs being granted.
Last month Banpu also acquired from EnergyAustralia a 50 per cent equity interest in the under construction 350 MW / 1400 MWh Wooreen BESS, located adjacent to EnergyAustralia’s Jeeralang gas-fired power station at Hazelwood North in the Latrobe Valley of Victoria.
Thailand-headquartered Banpu entered the Australian industry with the purchase of the operating Manildra (56 MW DC) and Beryl (111 MW DC) Solar Farms in NSW in June 2021.
