Wind farms quietly pushed ahead into late development stage by new owners

Since acquiring the Port Latta Wind Farm in the middle of
2022 Aquila Clean Energy Asia Pacific has quietly gone about the business of
preparing the project for construction, which began in December last year.
Located near Stanley on Tasmania’s north-west coast, the Port Latta Wind Farm project includes five 4.5 MW turbines, for a total of 21 MW capacity, and will be installed on two properties covering approximately seven hectares of privately owned land.
The wind farm will connect into TasNetworks’ Port Latta Sub-station and does not require construction of a new transmission line or onsite sub-station.
Up to 30 jobs will be created during the 12-month construction period.
Planning approval was received from Circular Head Council in early 2019 when the project was under development by land developer Nekon.
Another wind farm that has reached a late stage of development under new ownership is the up to 42-turbine, 256.2 MW capacity Carmody’s Hill Wind Farm project in South Australia.
A development application by Pacific Hydro for a 70-turbine project was approved by the Northern Areas Council in December 2009.
The project scope has been modified since then and ownership changed hands, with the nominated developer Georgetown Hills Renewable Energy Pty Ltd set up to develop the Carmody's Hill Wind Farm Project for Aula Energy and Renewable Project Services.
DT Infrastructure was this week appointed by Aula Energy, backed by the Macquarie Group, to deliver the early works for the project, which also includes a 118 MW Battery Energy Storage System.
A final investment decision is expected in late 2025 with construction starting early 2026.
