Canadian
Solar is planning a new big battery at Evans Plains, 5.8km south-west of the
City of Bathurst in NSW.
The Panorama BESS project involves the construction, operation, and decommissioning of a Battery Energy Storage System with a capacity of 100 MW / 200 MWh and associated ancillary infrastructure.
The BESS will connect to an adjacent existing TransGrid 132kV substation via approximately 100m of 33kV underground cable.
The key elements of the project include installation and operation of a SolBank BESS including battery enclosures, inverters, and transformers.
In September Canadian Solar launched the SolBank, a proprietary designed and manufactured energy storage battery solution for utility-scale applications.
The SolBank is a lithium iron phosphate (LiFePO4) chemistry-based battery enclosure with up to 2,800 kWh of usable energy capacity.
According to Canadian Solar the SolBank was designed with liquid cooling and humidity control, active balancing battery management system technologies, and complies with the latest international safety and compliance standards.
The Panorama BESS project has just entered the state planning approval process. Once underway construction is anticipated to take approximately 14 to 15 months.
The Panorama BESS is Canadian Solar’s first Australian battery project, however it has approximately 920 MW of solar farm capacity in development including the Narrabri South Solar Farm, Gunning Solar Farm, Sundown Solar Farm in NSW, and the Carwarp Solar Farm in Victoria.
