Group 6 Metals signs MOU with Fortescue Future Industries

ASX-listed Group 6 Metals is tapping Fortescue Future Industries "to explore opportunities for the potential provision of renewable energy, heat energy and hydrogen" to G6M's Dolphin Tungsten Mine on King Island, Tasmania.
A MOU between the two companies was signed which could lead to the development of a "suitably sized" wind farm to supply the mine’s power. FFI will also assess the potential for a hydrogen plant and fertiliser production plant as part of the project, and G6M will investigate if "downstream processing to produce higher value tungsten products" could be supported.
King Island is not part of the NEM grid and until recently electricity on the island was generated entirely from diesel. In 2016 Hydro Tasmania's King Island Renewable Integration Project provided a 6 MW wind, solar and bio-diesel power station, backed up by a battery system, to supply 65% of the island’s energy needs using renewable energy.
