PROJECT UPDATE: Punchs Creek Solar Farm
Published Date : 2024-July-25, Thursday
Within days
of the Punchs Creek Solar Farm receiving development approval from the
Toowoomba Regional Council, an EPBC Act referral has been submitted to the
federal environmental authority for the project.
Skylab
Australia is planning to construct and operate the up to 800 MW AC solar farm
alongside a 250 MW battery energy storage system at Punchs Creek, approximately
64km south-west of Toowoomba and approximately 13km south-east of Millmerran in
south-east Queensland.
The 1456.4
ha project site consists primarily of existing cleared agricultural land
traversed by several vegetated watercourses/drainage lines and bordered by
vegetated roadsides.
The project
will connect to the existing Powerlink 330kV electricity transmission line
which crosses the proposed site.
It’s
understood Skylab Australia is planning to build 400 MW AC of solar plus a 250
MW BESS in stage 1, with another 400 MW AC solar planned in stage 2.
Last month
another of Skylab Australia’s developments, the 94 MW AC Gunsynd Solar Farm in
Goondiwindi, south-west Queensland, achieved FID and construction go-ahead.
Skylab was
the original developer of the project which was sold to Singapore’s Metis
Energy in November 2022 for $12mil.
